Take away the stress of shopping for your loved ones this Christmas – City of Arcades Day is here!
Independent businesses and specialist retailers of Cardiff have united to provide city wide offers on City of Arcades Day, Saturday 16th November 2019.
Over 70 shops, salons, cafés and bars in the arcades, including Wyndham, Castle, High Street, Duke Street, Royal, Morgan and Dominions, are putting on exclusive discounts throughout the day.
Alongside the many bargains there will be entertainment including hula hoop performances by The Sparklettes and live music by local Cardiff artists including The Gentle Good, Gracie Richards and Aled Rheon across the arcades to entertain shoppers.
Events include a Christmas Market in Dominions Arcade, secret Back of the House Tours of Morgan Quarter and the first poetry reading of specially commissioned poets to celebrate the arcades at Waterloo Tea in the evening. There will also be DJs and entertainment from independent stores including Spillers Records and Polarity Coffee.
Adrian Field, Executive Director at FOR Cardiff, said: “One of the best things about Cardiff is the arcades and the multitude of businesses that are inside them. FOR Cardiff are proud to be hosting this inaugural event.
“It’s set to be a shopping day like no other and the perfect chance to buy all your Christmas presents while supporting local independents and hearing from the best of Cardiff’s homegrown talent.”
All participating independents will be giving away free City of Arcades jute bags and badges on the day. City of Arcades Day is a free event, but some ticketed evening events may incur a charge.
Events:
- Back of the house tours of the Morgan Quarter at 10:30am and 2:30pm
- A block printing demo at the Pen and Paper in Royal Arcade at 11:30am
- A fashion show by Andrea’s Closet in Duke Street Arcade at 1pm
- A Dungeons and Dragons day at the Arcade Vaults in High Street Arcade between 12pm and 9pm
- A charity Mario Kart tournament at the Arcade Vaults in High Street Arcade at 5:30pm
- A poetry reading at Waterloo Tea in Wyndham Arcade at 7pm
- An all-day mini Christmas market in Dominions Arcade
- Live music in the day and evening at Polarity Coffee.
